This weeks edition of Rick’s Rants has an interesting interview with my wife, Sharon, who recounts some of the early days of the last spooks shows we did, the touring illusion shows and what we do today. She also talks about her career as a nurse for 35 years.
I hope you enjoy this rear impromptu glimpse into some show biz history.
Have a Happy Easter. – Rick

Sharon and I have been doing school shows since the 1970’s, as you’ll see in this video log of a typical day on the road show biz is all glamor and easy living, with short hours. :>) … what and give up show biz???

Rick Allen’s 3 – minute newsletter further discussion March 12, 2008
Posted by Rick Allen in Uncategorized.add a comment
I’ve had several Private emails (it would be better to post your questions here, as many others may have the same question.) asking about the 3- minute newsletter I talked about on last weeks Rick’s Rants video.
One was, they could not see the dang thing!
Well that wasn’t my intention, but I decided to make a pdf file of this months newsletter so you could get a better idea of the format and how simple it really is.
Here is the link for it:
As I said in the video you do not even have to write your own article, you can find hundreds of thousands of writers willing to get published (hey I’m one of them) and you can use their articles in your own newsletters. Be sure to read the requirements on the sites for using the articles if that is the way your going to go. Basically given credit where credit is do and don’t just stick your name on it.
Here are a couple links for the lazy:
http://www.completecampaigns.com/index.asp
These are all free articles. These are just ones I pulled form my files, they may or may not fit your needs.
It is just as easy however to write your own and use the articles or something in the news to give you the inspiration. It doesn’t have to be an epic novel or even a short story, rather only 300 to 500 words, about as long as this blog entry. In fact one of the great ways to write your articals is by statring a blog yourself. Surly you can find 300 to 500 words a month to write (talk) about with your business can’rt you? Sure you can.
The article should be something helpful and not an ad for your service or product. One of the very popular articles for this type of newsletter is the “3,4,6,7, reasons why” tips, such as the “3 reasons you should have an IRA” for a financial planner, or “The 7- things you need to know about hosting a dinner party” for a caterer or even entertainers.
Here’s the BIG secret however of why I send the monthly newsletter, Oh sure I may make a sales for it, it does inform, from a marketing standpoint it gives 12 contact points of the 24 to 36 that should be delivered to your customers and clients each year. But, the biggest reason is discipline! That’s right, forcing me each month to spend the hour getting the newsletter written, copied, mailed and, and this is huge, a reason to build my list at each and every opportunity I have.
As the list grows my business will also grow and this gives me a bench mark of sorts to measure and see each month that I’m sending out more and more newsletters to people interested in what I have to offer.
So again as on the video, I suggest that you get started today and do your own 3- minute newsletter
